Growth requires effort of our will toward the Spirit
In the wonderful beginnings of our new creation, we are rarely taught that these are babyish experiences. We are to grow and growth requires effort. So, we must learn what this means. Peter gives us the starting point.
“As newborn babies, desire the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow,”
1 Peter 2:2 MEV
We begin with the Word. The word read, and the word spoken are both important. But, the Word is Jesus! I’ve talked about this many times in this blog. I wrote about it often in the original blog, The Skilled Workman, from which Reality Calling was birthed.
Yes, we must read Scripture. Of course, it’s helpful to have a solid pastor/teacher/mentor. But, John told us clearly that the Holy Spirit will teach us everything we need to know (I John 2:20-28 or so). So..
Growth requires effort, the effort of turning toward Him: always
We do have to turn. Yet, His yoke is easy and His burden is light. We gradually learn that, if we’re straining we are probably doing something wrong. Growth requires effort. But it’s the effort of always choosing Him and His wisdom.
““Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30 MEV
When He calls, we must choose to go.
