Christian artists scattered like salt in the world is part of the Kingdom of God. Salt seasons because it’s scattered at a molecular level. Clumps of salt are normally too strong to handle—or even be pleasant. If you look around, that’s how we are in a high percentage of situations.

I’m researching for a book. Then in a flash, I run into a time of beauty totally unexpected. I was reading an article, that mentioned a gallery, that mentioned one of these artists — Bill Baker — and I was transported to his world. It was a ride into beauty. The link will take you to a page of a couple dozen paintings of his. You’ll be glad you did.

Yet, it was a real joy. Sometimes I’m like Elijah—feeling like I’m the only one left. But the Lord is not without His remnant. Here I suddenly find a fine artist who uses his work to represent, and fund, his ministry. I know nothing about him, and that doesn’t matter. The Lord used him to touch me today, while I’m working. I like to say: “That’s how Jesus is. He can’t help Himself.” And I’m pleased beyond measure.

Have you ever wondered why almost every place, group, project has a single believer, or maybe a few [in a large place]? I don’t want to make a big deal of this. But it strikes me that when Jesus said we are salt, this is part of what He was talking about.

Who are you? Where are you supposed to season and preserve? You’re not being punished—you’re bringing light to a specific place or situation where the Lord has positioned you to minister. We’re not an accident. The Lord has control of our lives—at least I hope He has control of yours.

Salt is a good thing.
