You know right up front that I have real problems with short story series. I think they are a ripoff. They are charged as a book, but 67 pages is not a book. It costs $15 to buy the whole series for your Kindle, but the entire series is only a little over 400 pages—or one good novel.

That being said, these are good stories. Though written for pre-teens, Celesta kept me involved and entertained. In such a short format, it’s impossible to draw out the drama. But she does well, given the tight space constraints.

Short story series might be necessary

I know many cannot or do not read today. With readers having the attention span of a gnat, this type of series might well be necessary.

The world-building is sparse. But, that’s due to the brevity of the stories. It’s enough to enable the suspension of unbelief so I could enjoy the various elements of the story.

Spiritually, there’s nothing here

This is just a clean read. However, in looking over the descriptions of the other six books in the series, it reaches at least Christian and possibly Redemptive by the end of the series.

All things considered, your mid-school children will enjoy this one. The same is true for early teens. But, it’s a bit thin for teens and young adults.
