Writing wisdom, don’t write what you don’t know
When we start to write redemptive fiction, we need this basic bit of writing wisdom. We cannot share Truth until we Know it. Head knowledge may impress our readers, but it will not transform them. The transforming power comes from sharing Truth which the Holy Spirit uses to change lives.
Changing lives demands writing wisdom
The focus must be on sharing Truth. This demands that you have seen it and allowed the Spirit to make it part of your internal knowledge and character.
Our characters and their relationships come out of what we know. We can’t appropriate what we’ve been told. We must share what we’ve lived.
This is not true in most of the books I read—especially in fiction. This is because most books are sharing what the author experienced while watching a movie or reading a book. This can be entertaining, but it will never be transformational unless you share the Truth you have appropriated into your own life.
Truth will set your readers free if you let the Lord get intimately involved in your writing. He delights in showing you what you can write with power. Many people call this writing under the anointing. But, it doesn’t matter what you call it. What it is is allowing the Spirit to become part of your internal dialogue as you write. That is writing wisdom!
It is the result of praying without ceasing
You talk with the Lord all the time, day in and day out, morning, noon, and night. Dialogue…talking and listening…searching for Truth from the source of Truth. As you find it, making it part of your life, your stories will naturally show what you’ve learned without preaching, Bible thumping, or strain. Your writing will show the wisdom you’ve learned.
What joy is found in walking in the Spirit, absorbing His wisdom.
