Again, we need to cover rarely taught reality: Discipleship teaches discipline and applies Truth to develop character. This remains a central truth in the Christian walk. We rejoice in our suffering—knowing what it teaches. It’s a PITA (pain in the b***)! But results are truly worth it. Allow the Lord to work.

Even Jesus needed discipline

“In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death. He was heard because of His godly fear. Though He was a Son, He learned obedience through the things that He suffered, and being made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him,”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:7-9‬ ‭MEV

The word perfect here means what it does throughout the New Testament: mature, complete. Jesus had to learn obedience. He was a man like us. This is a major part of the  wonder of the incarnation.

So what does it mean, Discipleship teaches discipline and applies Truth?

Hebrews explains that also.

“And you have forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not despise the discipline from the Lord, nor grow weary when you are rebuked by Him;

“Endure discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline? If you are without discipline, of which everyone has partaken, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers, and they corrected us, and we gave them reverence. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed disciplined us for a short time according to their own judgment, but He does so for our profit, that we may partake of His holiness. Now no discipline seems to be joyful at the time, but grievous. Yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness in those who have been trained by it.”

Let suffering teach—make you holy and mature. Jesus loves you and me, hoping we’ll take up the cross and allow our old self to die. We truly need to learn to live in the probabilities given us in our new creation.
