A definition of believing superheroes for fiction
A definition of believing superheroes for fiction is needed if you want to touch people for the Messiah. You’ll not do it with fearful wimps who can’t decide what to do. Thankfully, scripture tells us that God casts out all fear.
As far as the world is concerned, the normal walk in the Spirit sounds like superhero stuff. But this normality is no longer normal. It’s contingent on two things.
- You must be born from above: Jesus said that, specifically, and without quibbling. Paul, John, and Peter write about it. Jesus said you can’t even see the Kingdom of God without being born of God—a second birth. It’s not optional.
- You must have a personal, conversational relationship with Jesus: The scriptural term used is to know Him. Jesus tells us in John 17:3, This is eternal life to know God. This word know is referring to the the intimacy of a husband knowing his wife, or vice versa. It’s not optional either.
Suggested procedure for rebirth and intimacy
This is the best way I know of. First, ask the Holy Spirit to show you all your sin. He will. Second, turn to Jesus and ask Him how to get rid of your sin—all those horrible things you’ve done. He will take it from there.
After He forgives you, ask Him to come live in you and fill you with His presence. He will. He can’t do it until you’ve solved the sin problem.
He may start speaking with you immediately. If so, go with it. If not, ask Him how you can learn to hear His voice. We all do that differently. But Jesus’ greatest desire is to talk with you and help you. That’s why He created you.
A definition of believing superheroes for fiction is required for realistic characters
Once the character is born again and talking with the Lord, a large set of supernatural powers are given. They will become active on your life. You’ll find one partial list in I Corinthians 12: 7-11. These are used to help people. They are always focused on others, not yourself. There are nine gifts listed there, and over the course of your life [or your character’s life] they are all available to all of us, as needed.
Simple example: my wife was a biblical counselor. When she ran into a blockage in her work with someone, the Lord would often tell her, or give her, exact knowledge of what was going on in the counselee’s life. Pat could bring that up, and the astonishment from the person being counseled often opened up real healing. The same is true of wisdom, healings, miracles, discernment, and all the rest. This is basic superhero empowerment. Like Jesus told the disciples in the beginning of Acts, “wait until the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” When it did, 3000 people were reborn and Body of the Bride of the Messiah has not stopped growing since.
The definition of believing superheroes for fiction is based on three things
- The belief that Jesus is truly our Messiah.
- The Holy Spirit living inside of us.
- And the sure knowledge that the Bible was written by the Holy Spirit through chosen people and is literally true.
It’s all about faith, and what you choose to believe. I have found over forty eight years, that the more I believed the Bible the more the Lord could work in my life. Believing superheroes are not superman or superwoman. They are uncommonly unlikely people who have chosen to believe what the Lord, King of the Universe, has clearly said through the scriptures.
Their lives are the result of trust. Their super powers are radical obedience, fast repentance, and unswerving faith. For they are consumed with remaining holy.
A person maintains that position by regularly asking the Holy Spirit to show them if they have any sin to repent of. As soon as all sin is repented of, they are clean and holy again. In that position, the enemy has no power over them, the Lord communicates intimately, and the power of Almighty God flows out of them like living water.
Just ask the Holy Spirit to show you if there is any sin in your life. He will show you. You repent—and you’re clean and sin free again. However, we all fall into sin. But simple repentance brings us back to cleanliness and purity. This is the mark of a superhero. This is how David found favor in the sight of the Lord. This is why he was chosen King.
