As you know, one of the major areas of my life is reading speculative fiction, specifically fantasy, science fiction, action/adventure, and political/military thrillers. 4-5 years ago, I was going blithely along reading what I could find in heathen fiction that wasn’t gross and violent to the point of virtual nausea. Sometimes the story was fairly good, but it was compromised by increasingly intense sexual fantasy run amok. In some books, the very interesting tales of political/military intrigue were virtually destroyed by the almost gleeful focus on the most brutal torture imaginable to gain information to defeat the enemy.

Then I found the wonder of Christian specfic

In this wondrous new world of 21st century self-publishing I began getting glimmers of what fiction could be. It was faint at first. Most Christian fiction is fluff, pure entertainment—but clean. But some went beyond this. In The Battle Series, Marc Romang took evangelical Christianity and ran amok with outlandish, Hollywood spiritual warfare. It was great fun and, judging from my experiences with spiritual warfare, showed an exciting amount of Truth and Reality.

I was hooked. Since then I have found dozens of books and series in the new Christian specfic which have increased my hunger: Guy Stanton III, Yvonne Anderson, Ralph Smith, Krystine Kercher, David G. Johnson, Mary Findley, Ben Patterson, and many more. You’ve read about this new work of the Kingdom in the reviews in this blog. This new specfic includes spiritual reality in an everyday, realistic manner. The best of them actually show how life walked in the Spirit truly works day to day.
