Yes, I know this phrase comes from the I Ching, but perseverance furthers with believers especially authors. Scripture talks a lot about overcomers and overcoming. Long-suffering shows up as a fruit of the Spirit. Don’t quit remains one of the most common bits of advice to new artists and authors.

Creativity always takes time to mature. Producing excellent work always reveals unexpected complexity, the difficulty of elegance, and sheer long-term step-by-step work. The difficulty comes with the problem of keeping the creative through the maze of production.

But what do we need to be persistent about? Creativity is the touch of God in our work. That’s one of his major names: The Creator. If we are made in His image we are creators also. We should have a leg up on the heathen. Oops! I guess I shouldn’t be so blunt. Huh? But it’s true.

So why do we not see this more? The bottom line is that excellence requires spiritual power. The bad news is that the enemy has no scruples and will insert his ideas without a request. For believers, we need to specifically ask the Holy Spirit to anoint us. He’s pleased to do that. But we need to ask—every time, every day, every instance. We can’t ask once and rest on our laurels. It all requires a direct, active, personal relationship with the Lord. Faith is indeed new every morning.

Give us this day our daily… applies to most things in the Christian walk. We can’t stack up prayers in advance and then coast through events. Every day you should start with prayer. Yes, I talk [write] a much better game than I actually perform in daily life.

It gets worse. You should continuously pray while you’re writing [euphemistically called praying in the Spirit]. Mainly, you [I] need to get it in your [my] thick head, “without me you can do nothing” (and yes, those words are in red). You may be able to write something which entertains, but nothing with power.
